I would never wish failure on a Yankee. Even if I perhaps do not care for a particular player, or if their success might otherwise hurt my fantasy team’s chances, I still don’t wish failure on them. However, Phil Hughes’s success is scaring me a bit.
Why? Well, quite simply, I’m afraid he’s getting TOO good at his job. When Yankees get on a roll, at any position, the layman Yankees fan starts assuming that they were meant for that role. (See Chamberlain, Joba and Cervelli, Francisco.) We must remain sight of the fact that Phil Hughes is a starter in the long run. We cannot be distracted by this year, and his success thus far.
I’m going to attempt to enjoy the good times of Hughes in the bullpen, but I don’t want people getting any ideas.

Ay, what do you freakin' mean? HE'S GOTTA BE A CLOSUH! I'M CALLING FRANCESCA TOMORROW!*
*You don’t want to know what I googled to get that picture.

Get him in the rotation. Simple as that. I value him more than Joba. Get him in the rotation.
Hopefully he’ll be in the rotation in 2010. Probably not going to happen this year though.
