A double serving of awful.

Joba Chamberlain and Brian Bruney embarrass the franchise yet again.  I preached patience with Joba and how he reacts to games, and I stand by that. However, you just can’t blow games like that.

And don’t even get me started with Brian Bruney. Talk about a false hope. I’d rather have this guy on the mound…

Give old Gil a shot, hell put numbers in the old win column...

  1. The situation with Chamberlain is inherently frustrating on many levels.

He’s been gifted with this starter role, because the assumption and vitriol between fans over his behalf is that he’s too talented to remain in the bullpen. Whether or not that’s the case, he just hasn’t been getting the job done lately.

The part that’s a little unsettling is this “I didn’t get it done tonight, I can only look forward to next time mentality.” This is New York, son. You go out and earn your keep each time you take the mound. Look at AJ Burnett. He understood he was struggling, made the necessary adjustments and has been very good ever since. He understood the moment he was in. Not to say that Joba doesn’t, but he certainly appears to be lacking the same sense of urgency.

With the 5th starter position temporarily up in the air, it only highlights the necessity that Joba snap out of whatever funk he’s in and delivers like he can and should.

  2. Yeah, I can see how people find his response off-putting. It seems like he’s coming around accountability-wise, but in the words of Yogi, it’s gettin’ late early.

  3. I think I’ve been pretty patient, but the bullshiit comments after the game don’t brighten my mood. I mean he actually said “The last two starts is the best my stuff’s been all year.” Who is he trying to kid? I’ve attempted to keep positive about Joba, knowing full well that many starters had trouble early in their career.. but he’s starting to hurt the team and with half the season gone, I don’t know how he has yet to fix the problem. Granted, he hasn’t been awful.. but he couldn’t be efficient for his liiiife.
About Bruney.. I refuse to bash him. Don’t ask me why, but I honestly have faith in him. He wassss utterly dominant before his DL stints. I think he’ll come around soon. He looked better in the 8th.

  4. It’s frustrating when you compare the Joba we saw at the Jake earlier this year to the one now… And Bruney, I hope he turns around, but he looks like fat Bruney right now.

  5. It’s time for Joba to leave the rotation, plain and simple. I was a huge supporter of giving him time to get in a groove. I think it’s become clear: he cannot start. He is meant to be a reliever.
